Her fame was based on her role as Marnie Michaels in the HBO comedy drama series Girls which ran between 2012 and the year 2017. Her role on the show earned her nominations for Critics Choice Awards. Rose Armitage played by her in the film Get Out was a breakthrough performance that garnered her nominations among others from both the MTV Movie Awards (2017) and Screen Actors Guild Awards (2017).
